"Anti-Fudge" Tool

When I was a kid, sometimes it was easier to 'forget' to give my parents the whole story about the latest mark on a quiz, essay, report, or project. Not that I actually would lie about it but if creative omission meant I could play road hockey after supper instead of studying... well what they didn't know wouldn't hurt me, right?

Luckily for me, there was no such thing as Home Logic (way) back then. If you are wondering if you are getting the entire story about marks and assessments, you have a handy dandy digital 'anti-fudge tool' at your disposal.

Simply click here to go to Home Logic, login or create your account, and your child(ren)'s full report will be accessible including their schedule, Attendance record, Grades, and Transcripts.
 https://sirswebapps.cbe.ab.ca/Homelogic/

If you don't already have an account, its very simple to set up. Click on 'new user' at the login screen, you will be asked your name and relationship to the student, the student's name and CBE student number.

Update from the PA

The Wilma Hansen Parent Association monthly meeting was last night in the library. Here is a quick synopsis of what was discussed and decided:

-Thanks to Ms. Berry for another brilliant band camp. Our young musicians are raving about the clinicians, the extra training, the time away with peers... and the food!

- Parents check out the CBE main page under "what's new" for a brief survey regarding the chief superintendent. What qualities are you looking for in the replacement? Now is your chance for input into the selection. Click here.

- Parent/teacher interviews are coming up, no appointments necessary. They will be held in the gym, simply find the teacher you wish to speak with and step up to the desk. The interviews will be on March 20th after noon dismissal from 1-4pm then again at 5-8pm and on March 21 from 9-12 am.

- Spring break begins at noon on the 20th and classes resume March 31st.

- Upcoming Casino Dates: April 1st and 2nd at Casino Calgary: 1420 Meridian Rd NE. Contact Neil at cieno@shaw.ca, he is the Casino Chair for the WHSPA. The sign up sheet and more information is here. You can fill it in, print it off and bring it to the school or simply email it to Neil.

Everyone is welcome to the Parent Association meetings, make a point of coming out to the next one and have your voice heard.

Mrs. Higgins Finding a New Home

"It is with mixed emotion that I am writing to inform you that as of January 1, 2014, I will be leaving the Calgary Board of Education and Wilma Hansen School. I have accepted a position with the Foothills School Division." - Letter from Mrs. Higgins
As I'm sure everyone is aware of by now, we are losing our fabulous admin. Mrs. Higgins. She is moving to a new school, closer to home and the community where she lives. Please take the time to thank her for her outstanding efforts at Wilma and wish her the best in her new placement. I know we are going to miss her. Best of luck Mrs. Higgins.

HomeLogic

You probably received a recorded message from the school in the last few days about opening and accessing a HomeLogic account. HomeLogic is a portal for parents to the information that the CBE has about students. This is a tool that parents can use to view information about their child's Attendance, Schedule, Transcript, and Demographics. Sign up is simple and is a great way to keep track of important information. There is even a list of your child's current teachers.

Here is the letter that describes HomeLogic to parents and here is the web page from Wilma's website with all the links you need. If you want to just go and sign up: click here and select 'new user?' under the credentials section.

Band Bingo Coming Up...

 Hello Wilma Hansen Band Parents

Our next Bingo is the evening of THURSDAY, MARCH 7 from 4:30pm to 9:30pm.

The location is the BINGO BARN, 1107 33 Street NE

This Bingo is specifically for the band program at Wilma.  That means that if the band program provides the parent volunteers, all funds received from this event will go directly to the band program.  As always, you will receive the usual 30point (1point = $1) credit voucher as well.  This voucher can be applied to your school fees in September as well as other expenses that come up in the school year.

For this Bingo, we are requesting 14 volunteers.

If you are able to volunteer for this event, please respond to this email.  Volunteers will be selected on a first come, first served basis for the first family volunteer.  If more volunteers are required, we will allow additional family members to volunteer.   So, check your calendars and respond asap!  (nstaples@shaw.ca)

If you are available for this date, please let me know. Or if you have any questions, I would be happy to clarify.

Thanks
Nancy Staples

WHSPA Update

The following is an update from Lynn, Chair of the Parent Association - there will be no meeting in December so here is a summary of PA business:

Just an update on what is happening with the PA:

1.      At the last meeting, we discussed changing our meeting dates to the 3rd WEDNESDAY of every month to allow more members to attend.  There were only a few of us there, so please consider if this would work for you and let me know, so we can post the January meeting date to the blog.
2.      We have received our new cheques for only one of our three new CIBC accounts.  Hopefully the other 2 will arrive today or tomorrow.
3.      I have called the AGLC with regards to the approval for our SALTS trip.  Gaming is apparently quite far behind in processing requests and we may not hear back for a few more weeks.
4.      Along these same lines, we should submit the paperwork for guest artists etc as soon as possible as the AGLC seems to need significant lead time.  Tammy  has offered to co-ordinate this and the school is working on gathering the background information for the applications.
5.      The Alberta Registrar has granted us an extension to revise our bylaws until the end of Jan 2013.  I requested this extra time due to the AGLC reporting and banking business that has taken so much time over the last several weeks and they were very accommodating.
6.      I have made the last Fundscrip deposit so our total receipts from this fundraiser stand at $6825.  Assuming an average of 2-3% profit, we should receive at least $150. Thanks to Kathy and office staff for coordinating this and collecting the orders.
7.      A SALTS letter has gone home with students to notify that the final payment is due at the end of January.  As we will not have the proceeds from our December SALTS bingos until mid-January, we will have only a short time frame to finalize our allocations and notify parents of their discounts for this payment.  Just a heads up that we will need to be on top of this right away.
8.      As we made the motion to continue with Bingos for 2013-2015, we now need to complete the paperwork and submit it to the Bingo Barn – I believe the due date is in February.

I think that is all for now.  I hope everyone is getting in the holiday spirit.  I know I am after hearing our band perform at the Jubilee last night.   They did very well and the whole concert was amazing! Well done!
Lynn

Hawks Sports Update

The weather played havoc on the girl's soccer schedule and they had to end the season prematurely.  They were slated to play in a 4 team final to determine the winner of the school season but snow and ice and wind and grey days in general shut it all down.  If improvement, hard work, sportsmanship, and fun are measures of success then the Hawk's girl's soccer team had a very successful season. Thanks to the coaches for volunteering their time and fielding such an exciting side.

Further sports news has been forwarded by Ms. Stiles and Ms. Taylor who compiled the following for the blog:
